The Right Flooring for Any NYC Home

No matter what type of flooring you’re looking for in your New York City home, Lane Sales has got you covered.  Whether it’s your chic Manhattan penthouse, your cozy Brooklyn brownstone, or your Queens studio, we’ve got the right flooring to fit your needs.

Modern Manhattan

Manhattan is one of the trendiest cities in the world, and the field of interior design has certainly been influenced by its modernity and minimalism.  Current fashion seems to be to scale down and build up, meaning less furniture and more space.  Carpeting is always a viable option, but try our luxury vinyl tile to switch it up a bit.  The elegant tile is totally in and creates an even greater sense of space within your apartment.  Tile is also easier to clean than carpeting, making it an obvious choice for a large and open space like your Manhattan dream home.

Old-School Brooklyn

Brooklyn has a certain charm to it that you just can’t put your finger on, but walking down streets lined with trees and brownstones certainly has something to do with it.  The soft city vibes of Brooklyn make it feel both lively and cozy, so the flooring of your home should give off that same feeling.  Hardwood floors are timeless and classic, preserving the old-world feel of Brooklyn while maintaining charm and class.  However an entire home of only hardwood could feel a little unnatural, and covering your hardwood with area rugs can do wonders for the coziness of your home.  Luckily, Lane Sales can help you out with both and pick the perfect area rug to make your Brooklyn home feel the way that living in Brooklyn should.

Queens Up-and-Comers

New York City is an expensive place to live, and new parts of old boroughs are being flocked to everyday by young people trying to move to the best city on Earth.  In recent years, neighborhoods like Long Island City and Astoria have really flourished and become popular among youth due to cheap rents and easy access to Manhattan, but what flooring is best for up-and-comers?  When making a new start, it’s always important to feel like you’re coming back to your real home, and what says home like comfy carpeting?  There’s nothing like coming home from work, kicking off your shoes, and running your toes through the carpeting that you could finally afford to buy for yourself in your beautiful new New York home.

Sheet Vinyl vs. Luxury Vinyl Tile

luxury vinyl tileWhen choosing between different the different choices of vinyl flooring, it is essential that we weigh the pro’s and con’s of sheet tile and luxury vinyl tile. There are many choices when it comes to flooring these days, and the more research you do, the more you set yourself up for success by getting the type of flooring best suited for your home and for your specific needs. When designing a home along the East coast, especially somewhere like New York City, pricing can be competitive and you want to be sure that you’re making the right investment for your money.

In the vinyl flooring world, this is the big question when it comes to shopping around and figuring out which type of floor is best. While there may be no right answer to this question, there is a right answer to the question of which one is right for you. Today we’ll do our best to simplify this seemingly complicated and convoluted debate so that you can make an educated decision on the type of vinyl that is right for your home.

Sheet Vinyl

Sheet vinyl has several qualities that separate it from Luxury Vinyl Tile, or LVT.  One of the main differences is that sheet vinyl comes in one large piece, which the installer will have measured to fit into the specific measurements of your home.

Less Expensive

One major advantage of sheet vinyl is that it is less expensive. If you are on a budget then the sheet route could be the way to go for you. Sheet vinyl is cheaper because it is easier to produce in big quantities since it is produced in big rolls without having to make individual pieces.

Tightly Sealed

Because sheet vinyl is laid down in one solid piece, another benefit of it is that it is sealed, meaning there are no spaces or gaps between the individual pieces. That means that moisture and water is going to have a much harder time seeping through to and damaging the subfloor.

Less Durable

Due to the process of how they are made, sheet vinyl is much less hard and therefore less durable than luxury vinyl tile. Because sheet vinyl is produced at such a fast and economical rate, less care goes into producing it at a level that would make it harder and resistant to damage. Also, if sheet vinyl is damaged, the options are to replace the entire floor, or cut out the damaged section and fit a new piece in. Either way, replacing damaged sheet vinyl is much more difficult than replacing an individual piece of luxury vinyl tile.

Less Customization

While sheet vinyl does allow the buyer to customize the color and design of the sheet, and choose from a few different colors and styles, the overall amount of what you are able to customize is much less than it is when the user is able to customize each individual piece as is the case with vinyl tiles.

Luxury Vinyl Tile

The obvious difference between the two styles is that LVT is made up of individual pieces, rather than a large sheet. This means the manufacturer has paid more attention to detail, and producing each piece one by one means that it is going to be of better quality, albeit more expensive.

More Costly

Vinyl tile is going to be more expensive per square foot than is vinyl tile, because each piece has to be produced individually. However, this does mean that the quality of each piece is going to be much higher. Continue reading to see the advantages of giving more attention to the details.

More Durable

Luxury vinyl tile is harder and more compact because instead of being rolled out in large sheets, it is more durable and resistant to damage. Not only are the individual pieces of luxury vinyl tile harder and more difficult to damage, they are also easier to replace if anything does happen to them. Many times LVT comes in bulk and you may end up having a few pieces leftover. In the event of a scratch or scruff, just remove the damaged piece and install a new one in its place.

Easier to Install

Vinyl tile can be installed relatively easily compared to vinyl sheets. The sheets will come in a 6’ roll, and the entire floor would need to be cleared and measured out, with the sheet cut perfectly to tailor it to the floor. Vinyl tile, on the other hand, can be installed one at a time, and they come in boxes which are much easier to handle and transport.

More Customization

More quality tile means more options for customization. That means more fun for you as the buyer to tailor the style of floor to your home, which as all homeowners know is usually the most fun part of designing a home.
