How to Choose Between the Type of Carpet Fiber You Want

Carpet fiber is an under-appreciated thing that people often take for granted, but it can make the difference between loving your carpet and hating it. Carpet fiber can be smooth or rough, ranging from a vast array of different materials that can make monumental amounts of difference to your feet and your desire to feel comfortable with your carpet. So, how do you choose the right type of Carpet Fiber? You need to be aware of the different types first to make the best-informed decision. Let’s take a look at the different types of carpet fiber’s available today.

Different Types of Carpet Fiber

Cut Pile Carpet

Today’s most popular and most used carpet style, cut pile carpet fiber is the most commonplace and well-seen carpet types. Cut pile carpet is known for its durability, density, and thickness. Cut Pile carpet employs a twist style which allows it to remain thick and heavy. This type of carpet is made up of yarn, and has a highly twisted shape allows it to hold its form for longer periods of time. Some different types of cut pile carpet are:

  • Textured Plush- Resistant to footprints and impressions
  • Saxony- Refined and designed for common areas and spaces
  • Frieze- Most durable of the quad, heavily twisted carpet
  • Plush- Thick, luxurious feel of sinking your feet into the carpet

Loop Pile Carpet

Loop pile carpets are designed to be extremely durable in more highly trafficked areas of your home. They are designed to take a beating and are made up of more durable and tough fibers that will last much longer than ordinary cut pile carpets. See carpet fiber types here.

Multi-Level Loop Piles

This type of carpet is similar to the loop pile, but it has a layered and textured approach that is much more intricate than the ordinary loop pile look, giving it a more casual look and comfortable feel while also maintaining the integrity of the regular loop pile’s durability. Consider this an upgrade from the loop pile.

Cut Loop Pile

This type of carpet fiber employs a special type of looped yarn while also coming in multicolored effects that are quite effective at hiding dirt and stains on the carpet. While similar to the cut pile regarding the twists and swirls present, it is also looped for the added durability and support that only a looped pile can bring.
